150 families were relocated to the Mipantao-Gadongan area of the permanent housing site while the 100 were transferred to the Kilala area.
Of the 250 permanent houses, 100 were built by UN-Habitat through its Rebuilding Marawi through Community-Driven Shelter and Livelihood Project as part of a USD 10-million funding from the Government of Japan while 150 houses were built by the National Housing Authority (NHA).
"Tayo ay nagpapasalamat sa ating national government through the Task Force Bangon Marawi at National Housing Authority and our partner UN-Habitat. Ang ating mga kababayan na nawalan ng permanenteng bahay sa loob ng ground zero ay nagkaroon ng oportunidad na magkaroon uli ng sariling bahay," said city mayor Majul Gandamra during the turnover ceremony.
[We are grateful to our national government through the Task Force Bangon Marawi and National Housing Authority and our partner UN-Habitat. Our countrymen who lost their permanent homes within ground zero now have the opportunity to own a home again.]
Provincial Governor Mamintal Adiong Jr. also conveyed his thanks to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte for the permanent housing.
"These permanent units hopefully shall be a new start worth taking for the families who deserve to have their homes again," he said in his message delivered by Engr. Nasser Tabao, the provincial government's project manager for Gadongan area.
The turnover of permanent housing units was led by TFBM chairperson Sec Eduardo Del Rosario, Christopher Rollo UN-Habitat Country Manager, NHA Project Manager Al-Khwarizmi Indanan, United Nations Area Coordinator for Mindanao Stean Tsiband, and Mayor Gandamra.
Meanwhile, the mayor appealed to permanent housing recipients who were previously given shelters in transitory sites to formally turn over the temporary shelter to the city government.
"Kapag kayo ay nakarecieve na ng permanent shelter, you have to formally turn over the temporary shelter to the local government unit kasi kami ang nabigyan ng authority upang ito ay maibalik sa may ari o di kaya kung hindi pa tapos ang five-year period, pwede pa itong pakinabangan ng ibang kababayan natin na nasa labas ng Marawi while waiting for the reconstruction ng kanilang mga bahay sa ground zero," said Gandamra.
[Once you have received a permanent shelter, you have to formally turn over the temporary shelter to the local government unit because we were the one given the authority to return it to the owner or if the five-year period is not yet over, other displaced families staying outside Marawi can use it while waiting for the reconstruction of their houses in ground zero.] (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
