Kathagombalay’s return gets positive view from Marawi IDPs

Task Force Bangon Marawi, City Government of Marawi, and some national line agencies once again resume the Kathagombalay to process applications for the permit to repair and reconstruct properties in the most affected area (MAA). (Michael John Paclar/PIA-Lanao del Sur)

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--With the resumption of the Kathagombalay after its temporary pause for some time due to some circumstances, internally displaced persons (IDPs) here conveyed positive response as they finish the steps to finally go back to their places in the most affected area (MAA).

Daud Salic who was a resident of Brgy. Daguduban in the city was happy to know that the government resumed the process for ground zero dwellers.

He conveyed that such a process is much better so that their stay from then on will already be legal.

“Okay [ang proseso]. Talagang masusi nilang tinitignan ang mga papel kung talagang kompleto. Okay lang din sa amin kasi nalalaman namin ang kulang na mga papel at sa future, hindi na kami magkakaproblema,” said Salic as he stated that the process was not complicated for this time.

[It [the process] is okay. They really see the papers if they are complete. It is also okay for us so that we will find out the lacking papers and in the future, there will be no more problems.]

This was affirmed by Rainie Ali Gandamra, a resident of Brgy. Sangcay Dansalan, as she commended the current process with the involved government agencies strategically stationed in places for the convenience of the applicants.

“Okay naman ang proseso. Madalian nalang [maentertain] ang mga tao sa proseso nila… Noon, pahirapan pa ang mga tao pero ngayon, hindi na,” she said.

[The process is okay. People are [entertained] fast with their process… before, people would have a hard time but now, not already.]

Along with the continuation of kathagombalay, IDPs likewise hoped that their return in the MAA would be fast-tracked with the help of the government.

“Mabuti naresume ang kathagombalay dahil gusto namin marepair ang mga bahay namin. Hindi naman [hassle]. Maayos ang proseso at approachable sila [na humaharap sa amin] pero kung pwede iexpedite ang kathagombalay,” said resident Sittienaura Dagalangit who was previously from Brgy. Tuca Marinaut in ground zero.

[It is good that the kathagombalay resumed because we want our houses to be repaired. It is not [hassle]. The process is okay and they [who faced us] are approachable but if possible, the kathagombalay will be expedited.]

As known, the kathagombalay is a required process wherein IDPs need to go through particular government agencies to check the legality of their stay in MAA so that they may be permitted to repair or reconstruct their property. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
