MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--The Commission on Elections (COMELEC) acknowledged the presence of the political aspirants of the city and the province of Lanao del Sur who were in attendance in the signing of the first peace covenant for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).
COMELEC chairperson Saidamen Balt Pangarungan also extended similar recognition to the security forces as he shared the same pact shall also be pursued in other areas, especially those that are tagged as election hotspots.
“Nais kong magpasalamat sa ating local candidates na dumayo sa first signing ng peace covenant dito sa BARMM dahil sa mga susunod na mga araw, magkakaroon din tayo ng peace covenants in some hotspot areas in the Philippines. Ako ay nagpapasalamat din sa ating mga defense, military and police officials for supporting our campaign for an honest, orderly and peaceful elections,” he said.

Following his commendation, Pangarungan conveyed his order to support the mandate of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte which is to ensure an honest, orderly and peaceful elections.
He stressed that he will never allow anyone to undermine the people’s confidence in the forthcoming May 9 elections with every single vote protected.
“Make no mistake. President Duterte is determined to ensure an honest, orderly and peaceful election as part of his legacy during his presidency and with the support of the defense, military and the PNP.
