Permanent shelters embody govt’s step towards better Marawi

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--The permanent shelters recently turned over to rightful beneficiaries are seen to embody the steps taken by the government for the attainment of a better city.

“Sa amin sa [For us in the] housing department, shelter is a right of every Filipino family. Ang trabaho namin as housing officials ay tulungan kayo na magkaroon ng sariling bahay that is decent and affordable sa magbabayad. Kayo naman ay libre ang lupa at bahay pero disente at matibay [Our job as housing officials is to help you have your own house that is decent and affordable to the payor. For you, the house and lot are free but decent and strong]. This is the transformation to ensure that we bring back a much better Marawi where people will reside in a very peaceful environment,” said Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) Chairperson Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario.

With the construction implemented by the National Housing Authority (NHA) and the United Nations Human Settlement Programme (UN-Habitat) with funds from the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management - Marawi Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program (NDRRM-MRRRP) and the Japan government respectively and the land development all done by the government, a total of 250 permanent housing units in Pamayandeg sa Ranao Residences at Dansalan in Barangays Kilala and Mipandao Gadongan were distributed to identified internally displaced persons (IDPs) Thursday, March 3.

Del Rosario detailed that to date, 940 shelters were already received and more will still be given as the goal is to have a total of 2,500 units.

He added that in the coming month during his next visit, roughly 240 to 250 units will be turned over.

Del Rosario stressed that they are carrying out this task as mandated by the national government of having the restoration effort centered on the impacted citizens.

“Ito ay bigay sa inyo ng ating mahal na Pangulong Duterte dahil sabi niya, ang rehabilitation ay kailangan, ifocus natin sa mga naapektuhan sa Marawi siege. Bigyan ng bahay at lupa na libre, na isang disente, matibay at masasabi na mas maganda kung saan ka nanggaling,” he said.

[This is given to you by our dearest President Duterte because he said, the rehabilitation needs to be focused on those affected by the Marawi siege. Give them a house and lot that is free, that is decent, strong and can be referred to as more beautiful than where they come from.]

The TFBM chief further stated that with the new location of the IDPs, they do not have to worry anymore about any occurrence of flood.

Also during the turnover event, Del Rosario encouraged the residents to take care of their units and follow the policies to maintain a conducive place for everyone.

He likewise urged them to be inspired by their new houses and to not allow violence to cause havoc once again in their lives.

“Huwag na nating payagan na ang mga terorista, ISIS ay makapasok sa inyo, otherwise, hindi uunlad ang Marawi City. Kailangan natin magkaisa [Let us not permis that the terrorists, the ISIS will enter again, otherwise, Marawi City will not improve. We need to unite] to ensure that ISIS and Maute will not come back to Marawi ever again,” said Del Rosario. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
