MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--United Nations (UN) Area Coordinator for Mindanao Stean Tsiband reiterated the UN's commitment to support internally displaced persons (IDPs) in this war-torn city return to their normal lives.
"We know that we cannot return the years that have been stolen by the event and things that you have lost as part of this process but one thing we can tell you is that the UN stands by your side as you are rebuilding your lives," he told IDPs during the awarding of permanent shelters in Mipantao Gadongan.
Tsiband said the work that UN-Habitat has done is part of that commitment and their presence during the turnover ceremony was to demonstrate that.
On March 3, UN-Habitat turned over 100 housing units to identified displaced families as part of its Rebuilding Marawi through Community-Driven Shelter and Livelihood Project.
"Today marks a new chapter in the lives of the families that are going to receive these new housing units that have been constructed by the UN through the generosity of the people of Japan. Today is also important for us because we know that a new chapter is going to open in our lives and that new chapter is because you will start returning back to normal life," Tsiband further said.
The UN Area Coordinator also thanked their partners for supporting their projects in Marawi specifically mentioning the traditional leaders and civil society organizations for reminding them of the results that they have to deliver to the population. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
