Marawi chief exec guarantees to carry on support for BLGUs

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--The local chief executive here strongly assured that they will continue their support to barangay local government units (BLGUs) even after the rehabilitation process is already over.

“Kami sa local government, tuloy-tuloy ang aming pagbibigay suporta sa bawat barangay ng Marawi City, lalo na sa 24 barangays. Huwag kayong mag-alala. Pagkatapos ng rehabilitation, patuloy ang ating suporta sa mga barangay dito sa Marawi City,” said Mayor Majul Gandamra during the inauguration of Wawalayan Marianaut and Kapantaran barangay complexes Thursday, March 3.

[We, in the local government, will continuously give support to each barangay in Marawi City, especially to the 24 barangays. Do not worry. After the rehabilitation, we will continue our support to the barangays here in Marawi City.]

The mayor also called on the barangay officials to work hand-in-hand with the government of the Bangsamoro region, city, provincial and national government as all these are serious in their commitment of pushing for the restoration and development of the locality in which solid proof is the completion of several barangay complexes and the ongoing construction of some more as part of the aid to barangays.

He stressed that the establishment of these barangay complexes is vital considering that the barangay is the basic unit of the government and it is where the convergence and consultation of different agendas and needs of constituents are better magnified and highlighted.

Funded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management - Marawi Recovery Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Program (NDRRM-MRRRP), the constructed barangay complexes are equipped with offices of barangay officials, health center, and madrasah.

Gandamra stressed that while the unfortunate scenario that transpired in the city some four years ago cannot be compensated with any material things, the built facilities will provide a significant start for everyone to move forward.

Apart from the barangay complexes, various infrastructures were already finished and turned over to respective recipients including the mosques, school building, traffic management center, and bridges, among others.

“Tayo ay nagagalak na patuloy ang pagpapayos sa ating lugar bago tayo ay tuluyang lumipat dito sa ground zero… Iyan ang pangako ng ating national government. Tuloy-tuloy iyan hangga’t matapos ang kanyang [President Rodrigo Roa Duterte] termino,” said Gandamra.

[We are happy that the rehabilitation of our place is continuing before we completely move here to ground zero… That is the promise of our national government. That will continue until he [President Rodrigo Roa Duterte] completes his term.]

The local government likewise guaranteed that they will not leave as is the infrastructures built for them as they will make use of these to further serve the populace of the locality. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
