MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--A brand-new school building can now be utilized by Marawi learners once their families return to the most affected area (MAA) of the city after the government through the Task Force Bangon Marawi (TFBM) inaugurated one of the 10 school buildings under the Integrated School Project.
TFBM chief Sec. Eduardo del Rosario, DepEd Usec. Alain Del Pascua, City Mayor Majul Gandamra, TFBM Field Office Manager Asec. Felix Castro Jr., and District Engineer Omar Diron led the inauguration at Moncado Kadingilan Thursday, March 3.
The P492 million integrated school project is implemented by DPWH as part of the Bangon Marawi Comprehensive Rehabilitation and Recovery Program (BMCRRP) towards a greater Marawi. Each four-storey school building consists of 20 classrooms.
"If we were able to complete the first building, we will be able to complete the 10 buildings of the integrated school. One of the priorities in any rehabilitation is rebuilding the educational system and the completed school building will show that the government is focusing in the right direction in ensuring that education in Marawi is given the topmost priority," said Del Rosario
Also underscoring the importance of the school building in improving the delivery of education in the city, Diron emphasized that the completed school building conforms to the standards of DepEd. He also disclosed that the construction of the other nine school buildings is ongoing and will be completed by end of July 2022.
Meanwhile, Pascua conveyed gratitude to the DPWH, LGU Marawi, and other partners of the Department for the successful implementation of the school building project. "Nagpapasalamat po kami sa lahat na nagkaisa tayo, nagkaroon tayo ng Bayanihan para maitayo natin muli ito ating paaralan na isang integrated school na dito sa Marawi imbis na hiwa-hiwalay na mga paaralan dito sa area na ito," he said.
[We are thankful to everyone for being united with us, we had Bayanihan so that we can rebuild our school as one integrated school instead of separate schools here in this area.]
For his part, Gandamra pointed out that the completion of the 20-classroom building is a manifestation that the national government does not only focus on economic stability, road networks, and other infrastructures but also on the education of children. "This school building signifies that more than anything else it is important to invest in our youth as they are the future of our society," he said. (APB/PIA ICIC)
