MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur --The latest inter-regional routes touching Bangsamoro Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) which was launched Wednesday, February 23, are foreseen to positively impact the socio-economic aspects of the people in the region, especially in the city after being affected by the siege some four years ago and is now undergoing a massive restoration.

“The opening of five routes will be very pivotal in our aim to revitalize the disrupted socio-economic activities of Maranaos. Through the concerted efforts and in cooperation with the national government, we win in completing the rehabilitation of the City of Marawi by targeting its fundamental needs to recovery so they can restore the once vibrant city and its rich, cultural history,” said Department of Transportation (DOTr) Undersecretary Atty. Mark Steven Pastor.

He stressed that it is through this project that they are continuing the efforts of the government to help the IDPs return to the siege-stricken city through aiding the ongoing rehabilitation and boosting economic activities between neighboring regions for their benefit.

Such was then affirmed by DOTr head Secretary Arthur Tugade, stating that this is one thing that will make the economy and more sectors of involved localities soar, especially of the city here.

“Ang pagbubukas ng mga rotang ito ay maituturing nating pagsibol dahil simula ito ng panunumbalik ng kaunlaran at mas progresibong Marawi at mga karatig nitong probinsya. Hindi lang natin nakamit ang mobility at connectivity sa mga probinsya at rehiyong ito, kung hindi, mabubuksan ang komersyo at pangangalakal sa mga lugar na ito,” he said.

[The opening of these routes can be treated as the rise because this is the start of the return of the betterment and more progressive Marawi and its neighboring provinces. We did not just achieve mobility and connectivity of the provinces and this region but this will also open the commerce and trading of these places.]

He said that with the needed cooperation, the dream of connecting this city to other places such as Davao City, General Santos City, Iligan City, and Misamis Oriental has come to reality.

With the successful opening of the routes touching BARMM, the DOTr hoped that the healing of the city would continue, transitioning from ground zero back to normalcy as it also assured that its doors, alongside that of its major partner Land Transportation Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB), is always open for any call of help in the name of recovery and advancement.
