MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--To ensure well-coordinated and effective efforts in covering all phases of disaster management, the province of Lanao del Sur through its Provincial Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (PDRRMC) adopted the Humanitarian Cluster Approach.
The adoption of this strategy was deliberated and approved during the Council's first quarter meeting Tuesday, March 22.
Adil Robroy Macarambon, deputy provincial DRRM officer, said the cluster approach avoids duplication of efforts and provides direction for PDRRMC member agencies on how, what, when, and where to contribute in times of disasters.
The Humanitarian Cluster Approach has been practiced by UN agencies to make the humanitarian community better organized and more accountable to crisis-affected people.
The said approach involves 11 clusters, namely, camp coordination and management, early recovery, education, emergency telecommunications, food security, health, logistics, nutrition, protection, shelter, and water, sanitation and hygiene.
During the meeting, the Council also formed Technical Working Groups that will focus on the crafting of the Local Disaster Risk Reduction Management Plan (LDRRMP), Local Climate Change Adaption Plan (LCCAP), Contingency Plan, and DRRM Communication Plan.
Some member agencies also shared updates on their respective emergency assistance, relief operations, and other DRR-related services, during typhoon Odette and the Maguing firefight. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
