The MoU for the project "Collection and Verification of Data on Cultural and Historical Assets as Basis for the Development of Cultural Tourism in Lanao del Sur" was signed by MTIT Provincial Director Mohammad Mamainte and BCPCH-LDS Commissioner Robert M. Alonto.
The project, which will utilize the crucial convergence between tourism and cultural heritage to optimize cultural tourism, seeks to reinvigorate the M’ranaw people’s appreciation for their responsibility as living embodiments and primary guardians of their heritage and continue to nurture a positive outlook towards culture-sensitive trade and sustainable development.
“This project will not just open tourism opportunities in the province but also to further educate the youth generation on the cultural and historical assets of Lanao del Sur coming from the natives themselves,” Mamainte said.
For his part, Alonto emphasized that cultural tourism bolstered by history not only attracts outside tourists but also provides educational information to the people and visitors alike on the richness of the Bangsamoro history, tradition, and cultural heritage.
“It should always be borne in mind that at this parliamentary stage of our struggle for the right to self-determination, assertion of Bangsamoro identity is at the heart of it. Importantly, note too, that our unique identity is shaped by our history, faith, and cultural heritage all rolled into one,” he said.
He also underlined that preserving and promoting the cultural heritage using all the communication, educational and technological platforms available will further strengthen the legitimate assertion of Bangsamoro identity.
"For, by doing so we cultivate mass awareness of Moro nationhood that will further strengthen our legitimate assertion of Bangsamoro identity and thus all the more entrench our unassailable right to self-determination through self-rule even if this is viciously assaulted by historical revisionism and obscurantism," Alonto further said.
