MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur --To enable schools to better assess people suspected of coronavirus infection in view of the expansion of limited face-to-face classes here, World Vision Philippines turned over thermal scanners to five identified schools in the city.
School heads of Abdulazis Elementary School (ES), Cadayonan ES, H.Hassan ES, Sikap ES, and Tuca-Boganga ES received two thermal scanners each in a ceremony held at the Marawi City Schools Division (MCSD) office Thursday, February 17.
"Dahil sa need para sa simulation ng face-to-face classes for the second batch na kabilang itong limang eskwelahan, we decided sa team na mag provide ng thermal scanner para maging beneficial at relevant during sa kanilang schedule ng face-to-face classes," said Cecile Cenas, project coordinator of World Vision in Marawi.
[Due to the need for the simulation of face-to-face classes for the second batch that includes these five schools, our team decided to provide thermal scanners to be beneficial and relevant during their schedule of face-to-face classes.]
Cenas said the distribution of thermal scanners to the five elementary schools is under the World Vision's Urban Child Protection and Participation Project.
Rohana Usman, chief of the MCSD Health and Nutrition Unit, said they are grateful to World Vision for its support to the learners of Marawi. The thermal scanner, she said, is very important to the school recipients as they badly needed it for the implementation of expanded limited face-to-face classes in the city.
"Dahil dito ma-lessen po yung budget nila (schools) for the procurement of equipment in preparation for the forthcoming expansion of our F2F," she said.
[Because of this, their (schools) budget for the procurement of equipment in preparation for the forthcoming expansion of our F2F will be lessened.]

Sikap ES principal Norhata Binatara-Bangcola also conveyed her gratitude to World Vision stressing that the thermal scanner is very helpful for them because they need to implement safety protocols in the school once the expanded limited face-to-face classes push through.
"We are so blessed and lucky because we are the one of the recipients lalo na ang [especially that] Sikap Elementary School ay kasali sa [is one of the] 27 schools that will hopefully join the face-to-face this coming March if okay na ang sitwasyon natin [if our situation will be okay]," she said.
Sikap ES currently has 334 enrolled learners from Kindergarten to Grade 6.
Meanwhile, MCSD Disaster Risk Reduction Coordinator Rohanima Omar appealed to the school principals to take good care of the thermal scanners and other equipment donated to them. She emphasized that taking good care of the donations is a way of expressing gratitude to the donors. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
