MARAWI CITY (PIA)--The municipal disaster risk reduction and management officer (MDRRMO) of Ditsaan-Ramain in Lanao del Sur underscored the importance of early warning devices in disaster preparedness and response.
On Monday, the MDRRMO together with the punong barangays of six flood-prone villages in the municipality received motor sirens and solar power systems, respectively, from the international development and humanitarian organization, Islamic Relief Philippines.
"Yung binigay nila sa DRRM office na sirens ay napakalaking tulong dahil during calamities nahihirapan talaga kaming magroving at magdisseminate ng information," said MDRRMO Muhaymin Salic.
[The sirens they gave to the DRRM office are huge help because during calamities we are having a hard time roving and disseminating information.]
He stressed that information drive would now be easy because the residents are warned of the danger when they hear the sound of the siren.
"Napakalaking tulong yan sa amin sa Ditsaan Ramain dahil lagi kaming sinasalanta ng calamity. Kung mayroon na tayong early warning system madali nalang, para di na kami magroroving at makafocus kami sa ibang programa sa disaster," he further said.
[That is a huge help to us in Ditsaan Ramain because we are always plagued by calamity. If we already have an early warning system, it will be easy for us, so that we will not spend more time on roving and focus more on other disaster programs.]
The early warning devices were funded by Islamic Relief Canada under the disaster risk reduction component of the Sustaining Transformative and Resilient Initiatives in Vulnerable Communities (STRIVEC) in Ranao Philippines project. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
