MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--Recognizing the impact brought by the Marawi siege in 2017 and now the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic on children, the World Vision Philippines reaffirmed its commitment to protect and champion child protection in the city.

Cecile Cenas, project coordinator of World Vision in Marawi, said various support has been lined up for the second phase of their project called the Urban Child Protection and Participation Project (UCPP), this time, with emphasis on participation.

Under this, trainings will be provided for more teachers in Abdulazis Elementary School (ES), Cadayonan ES, H.Hassan ES, Sikap ES, and Tuca-Boganga ES, as well as the City Schools Division.

She said the Brigada Pagbasa will also be localized under the UCCP. Brigada Pagbasa aims to cultivate a culture of reading among learners and help those who need further assistance in developing their literacy and numeracy skills.

Moreover, additional equipment for digital laboratories, DRR equipment, and child-friendly spaces will be provided. Contextualized IEC materials on child protection will also be produced.

On Thursday, February 17, World Vision distributed 10 thermal scanners to the five schools to help them prepare for the expansion of limited face-to-face classes.

Cenas said the donation is the first support for UCPP beneficiaries.

"This is very relevant since sa new normal kailangan pa rin natin pangalagaan ang ating kalusugan. I hope these thermal scanners, mabawas na sa expenses sa MOOE ninyo. Alam natin na yung MOOE natin ay very tight din. I hope this will be a great help for the face-to-face classes," she told principals of the five school recipients.

[This is very relevant since in new normal we still need to take care of our health. I hope these thermal scanners will reduce your MOOE expenses. We know that our MOOE is also very tight. I hope this will be a great help for the face-to-face classes.] (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
