MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--Intending to step up the delivery of quality education to learners in the city, the Marawi City Schools Division (MCSD) and the barangay local government units (BLGUs) here converged in the first-ever barangay education summit held Wednesday, February 23 to discuss critical matters to pursue educational interventions through strong collaboration.
City Schools Division Superintendent Anna Zenaida Unte-Alonto stressed that this event is significant as they will all be enlightened with the legal basis that anchors the relationship between the BLGUs, city government, and Department of Education (DepEd).
She said through this initiative, involved parties will know their responsibility and accountability in the development, honing, and teaching of learners.
"It takes a village to educate a child... It is proper that there should be a strengthened collaboration between the BLGUs and the Department of Education in the delivery of education," said Alonto.
The superintendent recalled that local ordinances and particular laws have already established prior relationships between the DepEd and BLGUs as accordingly, the finances of BLGUs have been integrated with the special education fund as a support to the DepEd.
With the conduct of the education summit, Alonto hoped that the MCSD and BLGUs will continue their partnership as the former cannot fully serve its community without the latter.
"We just need to keep strengthening our relationship... It may be our mandate to teach our children but we need support like finances, technical skills," she said. (CRG/PIA-Lanao del Sur)
