MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur --An official of the City Health Office (CHO) here reiterated that the vaccine against coronavirus disease (Covid-19) is safe for children 5-11 years old.

"This vaccine is safe as the Food and Drugs Administration has given an emergency use authorization (EUA) to the vaccines especially itong [this] Pfizer na nabigyan ng EUA na [which has EUA that it is] safe for children," said Dr. Khadafi Mapandi.

Although parents are not compelled to submit their kids to vaccination, Mapandi emphasized that the vaccine can protect them against the said illness.

"The children are not immune to Covid. NagkakaCovid din po sila [they can also get infected with Covid]," he said citing data that more than 100,000 kids have been infected with the virus from March 2021 to January 2022 and almost 2,000 of those infected children were hospitalized.

Mapandi said parents should always consider the benefits of vaccination which is for the health and safety of their children.

The city government of Marawi through the CHO launched Kids Resbakuna Monday, February 21,  in a bid to protect the youngest sectors of the community against Covid-19 and reach community protection. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
