MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur--Hoping for a high turnout despite the hesitancy prevailing in the province, health workers of the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) have reached out to the communities towards their goal of achieving herd immunity.
IPHO chief Dr. Alinader Minalang said their vaccination teams have been going down to barangays following the relaunch of the COVID-19 National Vaccination Days or Bayanihan Bakunahan last week.
"Simultaneous yung ginawa natin and up to now on going ang ating rollout sa Bayanihan Bakunahan round three. Nagkaroon tayo ng caravan at massive information drive, and of course yung ating approach ay sinusuyod na natin yung mga barangays. Pinagtutulungan natin yan sa provincial, municipal, up to barangay level," he said.
[What we did was simultaneous and up to now our rollout in Bayanihan Bakunahan round three is ongoing. We had a caravan and a massive information drive, and of course, our approach is that we are going to the barangays. We are working together on that at the provincial, municipal, up to barangay level.]
Minalang said for the third run of the Bayanihan Bakunahan which was originally scheduled for February 10-11, they were able to vaccinate around 15,000 individuals for first, second, and booster doses.
The vaccination caravan for the third run was held in the municipalities of Marantao and Tamparan, respectively.
As the Bayanihan Bakunahan is extended up to February 18, the IPHO chief is encouraging all eligible individuals to take the offered vaccination for getting vaccinated is the best defense against COVID-19.
"Tuloy-tuloy yan, araw-araw yung ating vaccination ngayon dahil malayo pa tayo sa ating target na 70-80 percent of our eligible population to achieve herd immunity or community protection," he further said.
[That will continue, our vaccination is now daily because we are still far from our target of 70-80 percent of our eligible population to achieve herd immunity or community protection.]
The province has only reached a vaccination coverage of 22% as of February 14.
Minalang is hoping that the extended Bayanihan Bakunahan and the start of vaccination for children 5-11 years old would increase their coverage. (APB/PIA Lanao del Sur)
