10 towns in Lanao del Sur hits 80% vax coverage

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Ten municipalities in Lanao del Sur province have fully inoculated 80% of their target population against COVID-19.

This was reported by Integrated Provincial Health Office Chief Dr. Alinader Minalang during the 3rd quarter joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council and Provincial Anti-Drugs Abuse Council Tuesday, September 6.

These municipalities are Amai Manabilang (105.92%), Marogong (95.49%), Kapai (94.58%), Poona Bayabao (88.63%), Butig (87.32%), Sultan Dumalondong (85.44%), Calanogas (84.75%), Taraka (82.25%), Buadipuso Buntong (80.82%), and Ditsaan-Ramain (80.22%).

"The rest ay papunta na doon sa 80%, we just have to continue with our vaccination activities para mas tumaas pa at mareach natin ang ating target," he said.

On the provincial level, Minalang said 1,035,534 doses were already administered to the eligible population of which 496,235 or almost 65% were fully vaccinated.

The IPHO chief said this is a milestone for the province considering all the struggles it faced to address the high vaccine hesitancy in the province.

"We maintain our vaccination hub in the province and our municipalities, we maintain our fixed vaccination posts in our RHUs. We also continue to coordinate with relevant agencies line MBHTE and started vaccination in schools. Moreover, we upgraded our cold chain facility with the help of the provincial government and our partners from UNICEF and USAID. We also engaged other partners and health stakeholders for us to improve our vaccination coverage," he stated,

However, the booster dose given remains low with 71,329 or 9.27% of the eligible population receiving 1st booster and 3,056 or 0.4% with 2nd booster dose.

To further ramp up the vaccination campaign, Minalang said they would continue the implementation of mobile in hard-to-reach barangays and strengthen engagement with religious leaders and other social influencers to encourage more people to get vaccinated.

Emphasizing that the most important intervention to fight COVID-19 is vaccination, Minalang urged unvaccinated people to get inoculated while reminding vaccinated residents to avail of booster shots to protect themselves and their community from the disease.

He also reiterated the need for the public to continue practicing minimum public health standards as the pandemic is not yet over. (APB/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
