Kahimunan trade fair flaunts Maranao handiworks to Kagay-anons

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--Along with the celebration of the Higalaay Festival of Kagay-anons, some unique products traveled all the way from the province of Lanao del Sur to Cagayan de Oro City to extend the showcasing of the Maranao culture to a wider public.

This, as the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-10 chose to bring forth M.R.S. Sarimanok Brass and Antique Shop to exhibit different ornate products of Maranao craftsmen and artisans in the Kahimunan Trade Fair, one of the core events of the city’s festival.

The trade show booth was located at SM Uptown and ran from August 20 to 29 this year.
M.R.S. Sarimanok Brass and Antique Shop Store Owner Menor Racman Sumandar stressed their great desire to promote their products.

He recalled that the Marawi siege in 2017 caused a lot of his fellow Maranaos to lose their livelihood and lessen the promotion of their culture.

“Gusto naming mapromote ulit ang paninda namin galing sa Lanao [Ww want to promote our products again from Lanao.],” said Sumandar.

The store owner conveyed that he was happy to have witnessed people coming by to visit and see for themselves the products of Maranaos.

He shared that they have sold enough during the trade fair.

With the opportunity to a different population, Sumandar asked for more help from the citizenry by continuously supporting the promotion of their products.

“Gusto namin humingi ng tulong sa mga may kaya na magbili sila sa anumang produkto namin,” he said.

[We want to ask for help from those who are fortunate to buy any of our products.]
Sumandar hoped that the nine days of exhibiting their products at Kahimunan Trade Fair would be extended to sell and promote more.

Nevertheless, he was beyond grateful to DTI-10 for bringing them to Cagayan de Oro City.
Sumandar bared that before Cagayan de Oro City, they were also given the chance to display their handiworks in the cities of Iligan, Davao, Cebu and Manila. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
