‘Make F2F classes safe, get COVID-19 jabs’: Humanitarian community asks LDS citizens

SAGUIARAN, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--With the in-person classes commencing anew after being paused for two years due to the coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 pandemic, the humanitarian and development sector has firmly appealed to the communities in the province of Lanao del Sur to be fully immunized against the virus, and as much as possible, get their booster jabs.

The non-government organizations emphasized that even with the face-to-face classes resumption, people have to still acknowledge that the era of a global health crisis is not yet over.

Save the Children Philippines Project Officer Felipe Lambayan underscored that parents should address the right of their children to proper health so that they might avoid acquiring illnesses, and be secure in going back to school.

He stated that if citizens would be complacent and set aside the existence of COVID-19, there would accordingly be a spike of confirmed cases, and students might be forced to learn through modules again.

“Kami ay iniimbitahan ang lahat ng mga nanay na pabakunahan ang inyong mga anak para ligtas ang pagbabalik nila sa skwela. Tandaan natin na hindi pa nawawala ang COVID-19 so posible na kung tataas ang kaso, balik na naman tayo sa module,” said Felipe.

[We invite all mothers to get their children vaccinated so that their return to school will be safe. Let us remember that COVID-19 has not yet vanished so it is possible that if the cases would increase, we will return to modules.]

Raheemah Peace Weavers Producer Cooperative Project Officer Apasrah Bani further underscored that if citizens would want the restoration of their normal lives, they should have themselves and their children inoculated.

“Ipabakuna niyo na ang inyong mga anak lalo na ngayon na may available na vaccines. Iyong mga bata na hindi pa nagpabooster ay magpabooster na para makabalik na tayo sa normal,” she said.

[Get your children vaccinated especially since there are available vaccines. Kids who do not have their booster shots yet must have theirs so that we can all return to normal.]

Bani shared that she is also a mother with two kids aged eleven and 12 years old respectively, and she made sure that they already got their primary doses.

Meanwhile, United States Agency International Development (USAID) Monitoring and Evaluation Technical Associate Consultant Tayan Piang mentioned that their urge to the public to be inoculated keeps on and would not cease for the safety of all, especially children in this time of the back-to-school season.

“We are continuing our campaign to the parents and teachers na iencourage nila ang kanilang mga anak at dahil sa mga vaccination center para sila ay mabakunahan to really ensure their safety hindi lang dito sa school kung hindi everywhere na pupunta ang kanilang mga anak at learner,” she said.

[We are continuing our campaign to parents and teachers to encourage their children and be brought to vaccination centers so that they may be vaccinated to really ensure their safety not just here in school but everywhere their children and learners go.]

Apart from children, the humanitarian community likewise extended their call to teachers and all school faculties to be completely vaccinated and even receive their booster shots. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
