SAGUIARAN, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The Raheemah Peace Weavers Producer Cooperative is now linking with traditional and religious leaders, as well as the media to intensify their call to the populace of the province of Lanao del Sur to be completely inoculated with coronavirus disease (COVID)-19 vaccines.
Accordingly, the cooperative leads the extension of communication to citizens in the province as an implementing partner of Save the Children Philippines for its project called Routine Immunization: A Lifeline Interrupted by COVID-19.
“Sa amin is engagement with the Muslim religious and traditional leaders, and other social media partners. Nagstart na ang engagement namin sa Saksi [Islamic Radio Forum] at sa radio stations like sa DXSO Radyo Pilipinas Marawi,” said Raheemah Peace Weavers Producer Cooperative Project Officer Apasrah Bani.

Bani said one of the causes why Maranaos hesitate to get themselves vaccinated was because of the trending negative news about the COVID-19 vaccines.
Recognizing major influences in the lives of Muslims, she conveyed that it was due to this reason that they chose to associate with particular leaders supported by the media.
“May engagement na with Muslim religious and traditional leaders because as experienced, mas influential ang ating Muslim religious and traditional leaders. Kung titingnan ang mga Maranao, ang sa isip nila, kung oras na ng kamatayan, mamamatay sila so hindi sila naniniwala na pwede silang mamatay dahil sa COVID-19,” said Bani.
[We already have an engagement with Muslim religious and traditional leaders because as experienced, Muslim religious and traditional leaders are more influential. If Maranaos are seen, in their minds, if it is already their time of death, they will really die so they do not believe that COVID-19 can cause them their death.]
Currently, the Raheemah Peace Weavers Producer Cooperative continues to contribute its effort under Save the Children Philippines'a Routine Immunization: A Lifeline Interrupted by COVID-19 project.
Such a project covers eight areas in Lanao del Sur province, namely, Marawi City and the municipalities of Piagapo, Saguiran, Marantao, Balindong, Malabang, Marogong and Tamparan, which are all seen to have low rate of the COVID-19 vaccination. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
