IPHO LDS keeps perseverance amid public’s complacence to COVID-19 crisis

MARAWI CITY, Lanao del Sur (PIA)--The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) in Lanao del Sur maintains its persistence to achieve the goal of herd immunity despite the obstacles it faced recently.

With the end of the first 100 days of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. drawing near, IPHO Chief Dr. Alinader Minalang admitted that reaching their vaccination target is challenging, taking into account the complacency of the public in the past few times.

He pointed out that this might be brought about by the drop of active COVID-19 cases and the passage of the ordinance making the wearing of masks optional when in an open area.

Minalang noted that people are having the perception that the deadly virus no longer exists so there is no need to be immunized with the vaccines.

As such, he stated that they need to enhance their information drive and risk communication to counter this kind of notion.

Minalang further posted that among the challenges they encountered included the relaxinf of their partner stakeholders and LGUs, thinking that the environment is already secured from the health crisis.

“We have to emphasize to them that until we build the wall of immunity doon sa ating mga komunidad, ang target dapat natin ay at least 80% doon sa eligible population [in our communities, we still have to target at least 80% of our eligible population],” he said.

Minalang stressed that there are many more challenges to attaining the COVID-19 vaccination targets but they keep on striving to negate the effects brought about by such.

He deemed it necessary to employ the whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach to successfully secure their province against COVID-19.

“Kailangan natin dito ay double o triple efforts at tulong-tulong. Nandiyan pa rin ang whole-of-society at whole-of-government approach para nang sa ganoon ay maabot natin ang target na minimithi natin for this vaccination,” said Minalang.

[We have to double or triple our efforts and collaboration. We still have the whole-of-society and whole-of-government approach so that we can achieve our desired target for this vaccination.] (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
