CFSI eyes to continue project implementation in Piagapo town

PIAGAPO, Lanao del Sur (PIA)-- Even after bringing in vital community-based support to livelihood (CBSL) projects to distant barangays here, the Community and Family Services International (CFSI) targets to continue implementing various initiatives in the town to benefit more residents.

CFSI Executive Director Dr. Steven Muncy bared that their efforts are due to their mission which is to safeguard and foster human security, particularly the lives, well-being, and dignity of citizens uprooted by armed conflicts, disasters, or other difficult circumstances.

Stressing such, he pointed out the province of Lanao del Sur as a place that deserves some extra attention for it has suffered for a time being excluded from some of the programs that allowed other communities to develop and the quality of life to be enhanced.

Muncy further magnified the municipality of Piagapo as one of those that heartened them to pour out more socio opportunities following the progress it displayed despite facing misery brought about by firefights, remoteness, and inaccessibility to basic services.

He underscored that notwithstanding all the circumstances it had to endure, they found the town with excellent local government leadership and communities that wanted to work together and improve their situation.

“We were inspired by Piagapo. We have seen in Piagapo that a great effort is invested in improving basic services. This was a place that was isolated and challenged in the beginning but was really progressive and made a lot of progress in recent years,” said Muncy.

The CFSI executive director recalled that they started working in Piagapo back in 2008 with their program on food and emergency assistance.

Afterward, the siege in Marawi City occurred in 2017 which, accordingly, required the CFSI to intensify its efforts, hence, their commitment to work through 2023 in the areas affected by the conflict, including Piagapo town.

Muncy said that what they are looking at now is what happens after 2023.

“We would like to continue to be involved and committed to try to raise resources to allow us to work in these areas for the next three to five years after that,” he said.

Muncy further said that given their continuous implementation of projects here, the organization looks forward to constructing more community infrastructures, water systems, multi-purpose buildings and daycare centers, and investing in livelihood for communities to have a higher quality of life and make sure that their children get educated at the highest level.

Moreover, additional protection interventions would go on such as birth registration and civil documentation so that people have the documents they need to access public services.

With all the plans laid for the future, Muncy conveyed that they love the citizenry of the town and the province, and that they see that these localities are on the right track with great progress in the area.

“We are just happy and grateful to be part of their community. To work with you is the best we can do. We will do what we can but we know that people in Piagapo and Lanao del Sur can do great things and are doing great things,” he said. (CRG/PIA-10/Lanao del Sur)
